I believe ALL teachers should have and adhere to a code of professional conduct. Most other industries have a professional code of conduct. Argentine Tango is severely lagging behind other industries in regards to oversight, including many kinds of dance organizations.
Tango professionals do not have oversight except the laws of the land. I have heard and witnessed much abuse by Tango professionals. Because we have no organized oversight, I highly recommend you insist on only work with Tango professionals who post and adhere to a code of professional conduct and make sure their code of conduct includes respecting your physical boundaries!
Here is my code of professional conduct. If any of you believe something should be addressed or added to this, please let me know.

PHYSICAL BOUNDARIES: It is never appropriate to be sexual in any way during a private training session -- this includes flirting! Also, I request that all of my students respect that boundary.
TIME INTEGRITY: You can expect me to be ready to begin at our agreed upon time, and end on-time. If you are late, you lose the time. If I am late, I make up that time to you, minute for minute. We are both accountable to each other. I am not of the Argentinean culture predominance where lateness is expected and OK.
COMPETENCY: I will only teach what I know and state the limits of my competency to the best of my ability. If I do not know something, I will state it and do my best to find out or refer you to other resources.
HONEST ASSESSMENT: I will state my assessment of your skills to the best of my ability. You are paying me for this, not to just make you think you are better than you are. Honest assessments are hard for many students -- if you are not ready for the truth, do not hire me. Do know that I am kind in how I deliver my assessment. On the other hand, it is also hard for students to take honest praise of their skills and effort.
CONFIDENTIALITY: I will not share any information that is of a personal nature, including any of your emotional/ life processing that may take place during our training sessions. I do reserve the right to share with others that you have taken privates, classes and/or workshops with me.
